Since Comcast is about the lowest paying MSO and Chicago (a city I like) is a very high "cost of living" city, with just about the lowest cable contract rates, why not take this opportunity to go somewhere where you can make a living in cable. You are on the unfortunate end of typical upper management stupidity. Knee jerk reactions that make no sense what-so-ever. But, of course, that will never change! Good luck to you.
