Snakeyes, that's the way I do it too. Except I've never tried the copper. I use a piece of lashing wire snaked through the middle and twisted tight. Do't try to cut toomany at once and pull back on your snips as you are cutting.
Better to do an inch right then do a mile and do it twice.
