Like others have stated, the basic ins and outs or routing of your signals is where most problems lie in the sat/cable diplexing. It is easy to get lost when diplexing multiple outlets. I have misrouted the ins and outs plenty and am sure I will do it again. It is a common mistake, but both Dish and Directv can be diplexed without harm to the signal, just remember the satellite is on the powered side of the diplexor.
Correction: Last I heard the Dtv Ka/Ku (big ugly square dish) can't be diplexed unless you have a 3gb rated diplexor, but I could be wrong.
