it pisses me off worse when it's the people that i work for that i hear say that, it's only happened once and she was one of the partners that didn't know the guy she was talking about (it wasn't me) or what the discussion was even about. as for customers that get stupid, i tell them, "oh you'd rather have a contractor doing your install because we don't get paid if it's done wrong or doesn't work well, and we won't be here all day doing it since time is money" or "it means i'm good enough to make twice the money an employee would make, without any guarnteed pay" usually that gets them quiet, i don't think i've ever had a REAL problem with someone knowing i'm a contractor, although i've frequently cussed the cable gods for a job i wished an hourly was doing.
