Bullcrap...It all depends on the quality of your downstream and upstream levels. Downstream 256qam with 34 or greater MER's is what is important with levels from +7/-7 dbmv. Upstream depends on your transmission level from 42-52dbmv with good port SNR of 28 or >

The DC or 2-way at the house is based up your tap value to achieve your desired level at the CMTS in your hub or head-end.
