How long can they last?
With the advent of digital receivers and myriad pay services those receivers support, I doubt cable co's lose any sleep knowing analog is going bye bye. Their sales departments don't introduce dozens of discounted digital specials a year for nothing, you know.
I will agree with you that cable co analog sucks though, especially if you're watching it on a newer wide screen TV. I' d also call the picture quality intentional (to get CST on digital) if it weren't for the fact their compression technology destroys their digital quaility also.
But then again, the people have spoken and their choice to date is a preference for reliability over quality, bundled services over not, and local over national CST service.
