Re: Inhouse vs Contractor

Don't know exactly what the first part of your post meant, but I understand fully what I've written on my own as well as what I've copied and pasted. I've handled EXEMPT W-4s from my employees. I also understand that there are plenty of ways to play the system, but that doesn't make it legal. Falsely claiming EXEMPT status is no different than claiming 99 exemptions on Jan 1, then changing it to 0 exemptions plus an additional $100 per pay period at the end of the year to make up the difference. Sure, you pay in the same amount, but the IRS expects the withholdings to come in on a regular basis, and if they have proof that you willingly provided false info on your W-4, they have a case against you. Before anybody gets the idea to short the IRS the first 1/2 of the year, I want them to know that they are likely breaking the law. Try that same reasoning with your mortgage. As long as you pay the full amount in December, will the bank be OK with not getting any payments from Jan-Nov?
