Re: transition to splicing


The game aint the same as it used to be. Big payoffs are a thing of the past. Some advice at the risk of repeating someone, is to work with a seasoned pro for a while, hopefully someone that knows what the hell they are doing and not a hack.
Get as much info as ya can on the type of cable, passives and actives you are working with and definitely get aquainted with as-builds and new construction prints! Most are pretty much block diagrams but it's really important to be well versed in the fundamentals.
There's a lot more than meets the eye and it can be pretty overwhelming at first and yes, expect to make a few mistakes from time to time.. happens to the best.
One thing I've found over the years, it's a lot easier for an installer to make the transition to plant work than it is for a lineman to make the transition to installation... that's not a shot at anyone either, just an observation.
