From what I've read of your posts you seem like you'll be able to pull it off no problem. The hardest part of splice and activation is reading a print and trouble shooting. If you can turn 2 wrenches at the same time and have basic math skills (add and subtract) you can do it. As for construction, it would help reading a print and to teach you how to handle lashed cable but I've known many good splicers that never did construction. Go for it man, if you don't like it you can always go back to being an installer.
