Do you know another word for all the permits you are required to obtain? Taxes. It isn't vehicle registartion, it is yearly vehicle tax. It isn't a building permit. It is a tax on improving a structure. It isn't a driving liscense you are forced to pay for, it is taxes to use the road. And the list just goes on and on. By not calling them taxes, the goverment is hoping that people will just pay them because they don't see them for what they really are.
However, getting of the gold standard was one of the best things the country did. Now we can print as much money as we need. Inflation isn't too big of a problem since it can be regulated. "Selling money" is one of the major sources of income for the goverment. They can print a $100 bill for less than $1 then go exchange that dollar for $100 worth of goods or services. This works really well when forgien countries "buy" our money since the govement is making a profit.
Taxes are still high. Our income tax may not be as high as it is in other countries, but most other counties do not have as many hidden taxes "permits, etc..." that we are required to get. Other counties also have free healthcare for all their citizens.
