As drvideotoo said "don't burn a bridge", but if you're an employee ( this depends on your states labor laws ) and you give notice and they let you go right then, then you were either laid off or fired. Get them to tell you which and if you were laid off go collect unemployment until you're new job starts, if you were fired file a complaint for a retaliatory firing. Now, they can let you go at the time you give notice but they have to pay you off in full, if they don't then this can be a part of the complaint. Again, BEFORE you do anything check you local labor laws and decide if it is worth burning a bridge, because if you file a complaint you will be. If you're a contractor then to get paid in full you might have to file in court.
