I think Charles Manson once said that if you beat a dog long enough, that eventually he starts to like it.
Also, the "how do you cook a live frog" cleche applies here as well.
(answer: put the sucker in a warm pot of water and slowly turn the temp up)
Although these are both cleche's, there is a lot of truth there.
