I've been in homes for installs where the stuff on the coffee table in front of the couch had more dollar value then everything in my house. Rich, richer and richest. No tips.
Then I go to a rural farmhouse with five bedrooms and five migrant worker families. Each family of four, had their own bedroom, with mattresses on the floor and no other furniture. One of the rooms had two couples and each had an infant.
It was a two-box install but they wanted me to mirror three more rooms so all five had TV. Two of the rooms controlled the channel switching.
When I was packing up, one lady came to me with $12 in singles and change and said they chipped in for the tip and appreciated my mirroring the three rooms. I felt they were so poor that I didn't want to take the tip and said it wasn't neccessary. She said they would all feel better if I took it. I smiled and said thank you. Go and figure!
