One thing you said is factually wrong. He did not come to REPLACE the law. That may be what you wanted to read but that is not what I wrote. I said that Jesus said, "He came to fulfill the law." In other words through Him and only through Him can you meet the stringent requirements of the law.
Your next question is one that is trying to combine two things. One was the moral law, or the law that governs daily living. The other law you are refering to is the Levitical law, the law that distinguished the Jews from every other tribe or race on the earth. The Ten Commandments are given to EVERY RACE TRIBE AND KIN. Simply trying to get around the law by trying to confuse the facts will only get you into a philosophical box you can never get out of. The Ten Commandments are the gold standard by which civilizations and people should live. However as Jesus said NO PERSON has kept the Ten Commandments, EVER. Since the penalty for violation of the Law is death, the REALLY GOOD NEWS IS WHAT JESUS OFFERS. The Law is our School Master which always keeps us aware of our failings.
I would simply encourage you rather than to focus on the law....focus on the wonderful gift that Jesus gave you. Your penalty for violations of the law are forgiven and paid for by Jesus himself. Therefore the tremendous part of the story you are missing is the incredible love that was exhibited once and for all for you. Why people get upset at the removal of the ten commandments is very simple....you are removing a standard that keeps pointing people to good. That is not a bad thing.
