Yeah I miss the old school days. The one bad lineman, God rest his soul, who took me under his wing chewed my butt one day because after I climbed a 50ft pole I needed a rope to pull up the 8 4-way rollers for that long span of cable. "What are you a lineman?? Put them damn rollers on your sky hook next time punk!" Yeah I learned real quick.
Cable did not exist yet, it came for the 1st time. It was all built off hooks and flatbeds, brace & bits, etc. Back then I loved the business, very few crooks and cutthroats. You could go put in an honest days work for a good wage and expect to be paid.
