Call the IRS at (800) 829-1040 and pose this question to them. You might also file a Form 3949-A and report them to the IRS. I feel quite certain that they are treating you as an employee by making you help the other techs.
As a sidenote, I have found that a good way to deal with the other techs was to work out a reciprocation with them. I will help them on occasion, but they must also help me on occasion when I need it. The ones who don't come through for you can tough it out on their own when they call on you.
