Well put and Gratz on moving it forward. I know that here in Las Vegas, the IBEW nor any union would be sucessful in organizing the contract cable installers.
It's not a matter of will or will-power, it's just the MSO. Sure a contact shop can unionize. We have every right to organized labor. Company "XYZ" can have a union drive and sign up the whole shop. Negotiate with the owners of "XYZ" succesfully and have a nice warm-fuzzy over it all with everyone happy......... Except the MSO.
They control the right to NOT badge any of those technicians. Cox-LV says "We can't tell you who to hire or not hire. We can't tell you to unionize your labor force or not to have a labor union. We can tell you as a contractor which of your technicians we will or will NOT badge for our system."
Hence .........No IBEW in Las Vegas for cable installers. You'll still have a contracting company to run. You'll still have union cable installers, just none of them will have Cox Cable Badges.
Unions are a great tool when entering a market and getting both sides of the fence on the same labor page. Unions have thier place in our world. It's just a fact of business that NOT everyone shares the same view.
