S/A 9820 AND 9811 Continuum Series

Anyone ever use the Scientific Atlanta Continuum 9820 modulators with 9811 controllers?
We recently acquired this set up and all was fine for a short time. Started getting erros "REF INPUT LO" on modulators. Of course the controller just says the mods have and error. I have changed the controller and modulators and rear interface modules. I have replaced everything over time. Still get the error. Only time I can stop all modulators from showing errors is to put the controller into "external reference" and the mods into "internal reference" If I match them up it will all show alarms. Controller shows alarm when mismatched as "ref input lo". I have called s/a and the tech laughed and said they dont support these anymore. Sent me info I already had that said "IF REF LO" call Scientific Atlanta for support. It does not effect my pic quality or c/n or anything. Just shows alarms. Any ideas? Hate to have the corp. people come in and ask what the red lights are for! . ... Thanks.
