Re: Union?

Your other post still makes little sense to me, but I see where you are comming from on this one.

You are making a tiny mistake. Unions do not operate the same in all their agreements. As you may know, there are CSR's who carry IBEW Cards. Did they go through the things you did to obtain their card? No. It appears your local union is a union that represents workers in the construction trades. Your union contract is probably with multiple contractors that make-up the electrical trade in your area. These contractors bid for work against each other. The role of the union here is to take labor costs out of the equation when bidding for jobs. Bids arent won by companies because they have cheap labor. They are won by companies who run effeciently and have a business model that pleases the client.

Unions, including the IBEW, also have contracts with single employers. The contract covers the employees of that 1 employer. Wages are negotiated based on the financial data of that 1 company. Your unions wages are based on the data of multiple companies that collectively make the electrical trade in your area. So when a new company becomes part of the contract they have to pay union scale. Where as when there is 1 employer, you use that 1 company's data.

If by chance cable workers had a union contract with multiple contractors some of contractors would most likely fold, as you stated. Middlemen companies would not make it. But the work would still be there. But now, that work would be able to be performed by installers making a good wage, instead of a wage that is leftover after its touched by middlemen companies.
