29k a year net (after business expenses, not taxes) for someone who calls themselves "self-employed" is a joke.
Most guys making this in the field are putting in 60hrs a week, so I'd say that's about 8-10 an hour.
They work for one prime - Not really independent.
They don't get paid for downtime. Not even heard of in a respectable trade.
And for the privilege of paying for the prime's liability, he/she also get to pay for workman's comp that doesn't even cover him/her.
I know landscapers who mow lawns for 9 months making more than 30k a year. Think there's a IT guy out their who would set up a VPNET for a customer for 9 bucks an hour?
I say F*** them and let them service their 30 billion dollar plant with the monkeys too stupid to know their getting ripped off.
Installs suck.
