Document all your levels, from the modem to the pole, it should be the first thing you do once you arrive at a job, check your levels, if they are in the dirt why go any further? It's not going to work anyway so why waste the time, but you HAVE to have the documentation to cover your butt, I always check 3, 13, 36, 78, and what ever your receive carrier is at say 92 oh and save your self alot of time, go right to the pole first, you can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh%t. You'll also find that a lot of systems are designed for 2 out lets only per home now when you split to the modem and then to a 3 way, well you know the deal, and the problem with internal amps is that they are stupid meaning the amplify everything, CNR, CTB, Ingress, you name it, you may gain 10 dB but how's the picture quality?
