Need to read a little more closely (and so do a lot of the "experts" jacking oil prices back up on the predictions). What the NOAA predicted was 13-16 named storms, with 8-10 becoming hurricanes and 4-6 becoming "major" hurricanes (Cat 3 or greater). They NEVER predicted that 4-6 major hurricanes will hit the US coastlines. They say the potential of a major hurricane hitting the US is high, but at this point even they won't predict one actually will. Here's a quote from their forecast:
"Historically, very active seasons have averaged 2-4 landfalling hurricanes in the continental United States and 2-3 hurricanes in the region around the Caribbean Sea. However, it is currently not possible to confidently predict at these extended ranges the number or intensity of landfalling hurricanes, and whether or not a given locality will be impacted by a hurricane this season."
