There are some valid points here, but this all sounds too familiar. I was told this as a reason for cutting EVERYONE'S pay. It is the perfect bully slum-lord Manager rhetoric. "Some tech's do ***** work, so we to cut the pay back.
You speak of a "bonus system", how do you manage that? Do you send a lead/ trainer tech out on every job to take pictures of the work? Or is it a "productivity" bonus?
You acknowledge that the pay is crap casue the work is crap. How much do you pay for beautifully crafted work? Someone takes the time a pop the grass up so that it goes back down perfectly around the pole which is quickreted into the ground? Every detail of the work is flawless and the customers all love the installer. How much does this tech deserve in your system?
