Re: $50,000 a year is NOT a good living!

I think 50K a year is Ok. If you are an employee working 8 hour days, 5 days a week thats pretty good in some areas, not so good in other areas. 50K for guy working 10 - 12 hours days 6 - 7 days a week IMO is not all that great anywhere. I was reading some things from the Dept of Labor. Salaries in the telecom industry are right now 34% higher than the average pay of other industrys. Im sure that number was probably higher when there was a higher percentage of workers who represented by labor unions....... So you can be at the bottom of the scale for the industry, but still compare pretty good to other industrys. I think if you are going to make comparisons, you should compare your pay with the standards in our industry only.

Remember, in our industry there are telephone operators that make 50K a year, with no OT, have 100% paid medical, dental, and vision, and a pension.
