Hello to all of ya,
I stumbled across this forum by chance last week while looking for information on jobs in the telecommunications industry. I had worked for SBC 6 years ago as an installation and repair technician, but then quit after about 9 months because I wanted to finish my B.S. Degree. After I completed the degree I got into supervision and management, and now into management consulting. Frankly I am sick of the consulting and management field and want to get back into telecom.
I have a few questions:
1.) What kind of income can I expect? (Currently I make 40k-50k per year.)
2.) Where should I start out at? And who would employ someone in my situation?
3.) Is the contractor path a good way to go?
4.) What are some of the negativities of the industry?
5.) What's good about the industry?
I have been reading some of the post and it seems to me that there are many issues out there............can you guys give me a little background and explain the abbreviations and industry lingo?
Personally I find great interest in electronics, networking, and communications, I have on occasion built several electronic devices as a hobby; so this is a direction I feel I would enjoy!
Thanks,
dawgport
