I agree with you Aamdj if you are required to do additional work outside of the scope of work of a standard install you should be paid for time and materials if provided.
Are you given a scope of work that details what you are required to do for each bill code? If not then you should be! And you should inquire about each additional item that could come up in an install that is not covered in the scope of work and provide the price that you can do that work for. If the company is not able to pay that rate and you can not afford to do it for what they are paying then look for another avenue of work.
The main thing is know your contract, scope of work and requirements before you start work.
