A D & B is required if you ever want to work on any federal government projects. It may be required when working as a sub or indirectly for the government.

It is not needed if you are just going to work for the local office of your prime customer. Once you start to grow and work for more than a few prime local customers a D&B # wouldf come in handy.
This is an easy way for a customer to evaluate your firm along with your safety record, the quality of your work and your charges for services.
