Re: anyone know how to take care of snow on dishes
Been installing in Wisconsin for 5 years. never had a service call for snow sticking to the dish and we get lots of it. One time tho had it stick to my own dish. Got up on a ladder and reached over to the dish with a broom and brushed it off. We usually want to mount dishes close to the edge of the roof just above the rain gutter so we can reach it if needed without leaving the ladder and having to walk up the slippery roof to the ridge. When we do mount a dish on the roof in Winter and it has ice we bring a little propane bottle along to melt off the ice to prepare the area before attaching the footplate. If we really need to go higher up to the ridge the same is the case, melt away the ice as you walk up the roof. It's a hassle but better safe than sorry or breaking your back from a fall. On a service call tho it is not the original installers fault nor is it Dish Networks fault that it snowed and stuck. That being an act of God, the customer would be happy enough to get the TV back on to pay you an extra $20 for your help. If he says no, ask him if he'd like to try it himself. Tell him he can use your ladder and you'll set it up for him for free. Out comes the wallet. There is a mention of this in one of the Dish manuals. They say to wait for the snow to melt off. After all, it faces South West. When dealing with the winter installs I've always said, "We are the dumb birds, when we fell out of the nest, we didn't know which way was South."
