I hear ya on the Craftsman/Sears warranty... I had a little pinhead giving me crap over a worn out tool there years ago till I finally just left the damned thing and walked out. Never bought another tool there after that.
I've had nothing but excellent customer service with Home Depot on tools. Ryobi in particular. I beat the living crap out of one of their 18V cordless drills, took it back to one of their locations other than the one I bought it from. They didn't even ask for a reciept, just told me to find another one and bring it back to the counter... I was in and out the door in under 15 minutes!
