Re: Enlighten me!

I had a friend (he died in a car accident back in 1990) who was arrested at 18 for a string of burglaries he committed to support a drug addiction. After his arrest he got clean, but jumped form job to job. Then in his late 20's he ran into some more trouble in the form of a life altering motorcycle accident which nearly killed him and left him with a noticable limp (I met him not long after he got out of the hospital). During the 4 months he spent in the hospital, he decided he to get into medicine. He became an EMT and worked his way up to being a Paramedic (he had been a Paramedic for three years when was killed). During his time as a EMT, EMT2 and Paramedic my friend gave countless hours (totally nearly 4000 hours) without pay as a volunteer urban responder. If he were alive and had to go through a background check to get a job today it would show his conviction for theft, but it wouldn't show his conviction to dedicate his free time to serve the community.
