I have been using the hd signals to up grade my picture quality for years, I use sony direct tv hd receivers in front of a modulator, great picture. I also use a ups power supply to stabilize the picture due to power problems. I also put the hd signals on basic cable using the Blonder Tongue up converter and down converter. I am running them on uhf channels in my pass band, some hd tv sets pick it up and some don't.I am looking for a cheap hd converter to put my customers on tobut haven't found it yet. I only have one station that wants to charge me to run the digital signals on my system, so I don't carry it. It works great although the digital channels aren't as reliable as analog.
