Dont mean to split hairs, but I think its important to note that the training you guys are referring to is not just union training. The appreinteship programs is a JOINT effort between unions and the companies in their respective trades. Thats the difference between other trades and this one. The companies in other trade feel just as strongly about training and education as the union. They understand the need of having the best trained workers, not just for their company, but for the good of the entire trade.
Most companies in cable and sat use a business model that does not legally allow them to train, they use contractors. Shows a really big commitment by the companies to the trade when most install companies in this business actually EMPLOY no installers. Even though most still train I'm thinking its far from the level of training that a joint training program would provide. Just imagine if companies in this business put as much effort in training and education as they do circumventing the rules to save a buck. Or let them tell it ,they do it save the installer a buck.LOL...
So don't give the unions all the credit for the training. The contractors (companies) in the trades deserve some credit for showing true commitment to excellence, and a commitment to making sure workers in the trade are well trained and educated. Its takes a real commitment from both sides to get the best result possible.
