Re: Can you believe this???

Cableho, this isn't some private enterprise that fired him, it was the county government. The county government isn't operating a for-profit business and isn't at risk of loss because an employee is exercising his First Amendment rights. The county government can not prohibit a citizen from expressing himself in a way that is in keeping with the Constitution. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land, it reigns supreme over the desires of city, county, state, and even federal governments or their employees and supervisors.

The First Amendment doesn't just protect speech that society at large is in agreement with. Popular ideas don't generally need protection. It is the unpopular ones that the law was written for. Tyranny starts with controlling the will of the people by forbidding their free expression.

The Constitution and a full understanding of it is something that I don't think the public education system teaches thoroughly enough. Any encroachment of any of the laws put forth by that document should be vehemently opposed by all citizens of this country. Small losses of our constitutional rights do eventually add up to big losses. We have become a nation of cowards simply because we might hurt someone else's feelings.
