I am in CATV goin on 27 yrs. Started out when AEL turned into Jerrold. For any of you old dawgs you know I've been around. Back then you progressed thru the ranks. You started as a lineman with Flatbed trucks, worked your way up to splicing, activation, supervision, and if you were inclined some sort of Mgt. position. All in all it was the experience that got one up the ladder. Now you have professional types from all other bussinesses in the offices countin Beans. These people don't know a thing about the biz, just numbers. They have their fancy degrees and come from Fed Ex, UPS,Banking, and all other places. They have experience in the number game and "People Skills". They deligate their responsibilities as they have no other choice. They are professioal mgt. people. The only way you are going to climb the ladder would be to either get the paper and do some heavy duty lobbying [ bull****ting ] or stay in the field and work your way up to a top maintainence or engineering position. There dosen't seem to be a way to bridge that gap and make it to the big time mgt. positions with experience anymore.
Go for the outside jobs, get in your truck and have fun away from the office, do the on call thing, make more money and go home at nite knowing that you earned an honest living and didn't have to Bull**** or cut throats to do it. Let them have those Big Jobs, their ulcers, lies, meetings, dinners and failed relationships and the lonely ride home at nite. Success right! LOL
