I was living in Long Beach, MS across the street from the Gulf. This is what is left of my apartment complex (photo taken 5-days after the hurricane hit) and it looks similar now as to what you see in the photo. The major rebuilding took place in Boloxi at the Imperial Palace, Palace and Isle of Capri Casinos and is moving slowly westward. It still looks like a war zone south of the tracks to the beach in many areas across the entire coast.
There are many temporary FEMA trailer camps from Pascagoula to Louisiana. FEMA is cutting the hotel rooms for "displaced" victims February 13 (just in time for Valintines Day) with no futher extensions from what I have heard.
Hurricane season this year has many folks scared espically since the FEMA trailers will be like a box kite. I have personally seen what Katrina did to the semi-trailers that were parked near the Gulfport Grand Casino.....they were carried miles down the coast and inland broken like toothpicks and embedded into trees and structures. A FEMA trailer would be like paper mache. This season is an unknown mystery.
