Re: Long, But a Must Read for Contractors

I think you are mis reading this. An installer, for whatever reason requested the IRS to look at his work situation, because he wanted to know his correct employment classification. He was smart enough to know that just because some owner of a company calls you a contractor, doesnt make you a contractor. After reviewing his information they ruled that by law he is an employee. The IRS isnt going after anyone, at least not yet. There are laws and guidelines companies are required to use when classifying workers. And the big companies know this, and know they are violating these rules. Companies love to call you contractors because they have limited liability for you, and thats ok. The problem comes when these companies label workers contractors, but treat them as employees. Hopefully everyone installer who reads this information will act accordingly.

Im thinking that many of us who were/are wrongfully classified as contractors and have been laid off will be due some sort of monetary award because the employer failed to pay unemployment insurance. Im also thinking that if people can show they worked 40+ hours they may due money for unpaid OT. Not to mention someone who has been hurt while working. The back lash to this is ENDLESS. Once the proper people hear about this Im eager to see what happens.
