That should not surprise you at all. Here in New England the Verizon contract with the union will not allow contractors. They trained about 100 people to splice, put them in the union, had them pay dues and when they are done they let them go. No pension, no 401K no long term commitments. While I have heard that there have been serious quality problems, Verizon must feel that it is more economical for them. When you look at the low prices they want to pay in Florida a contractor can't afford to work there.
