Being a contractor for 20+ years I agree if you work for one company they should not let you leave and go to a direct competitor all this does is make for a very unstable work force. If you go to work for a company you do the job you hired on to do if you feel you are not being treated fare and want to move on, 9 times out of 10 if you sit and are up front and honest you can work things out. Personal if you did not want to work for me after signing on and could not give me a good reason and we could not work something out I would let you go but I would want to see a 30-60 day cooling of period before you went to a direct competitor.
