Had a Tempo(brand name) Toner that went bad in about 3 months, went to lowe's for a replacement and they no longer had that brand.
They have the Ideal toner now and I think it sux. Both were $89 with toner and wand.
Kinda liked the Tempo, seemed well made and picked up just about any unsplit line I hooked it up to. I could detect lines in most cases without unscewing fittings.
I rarely get a tone out of the wand with the Ideal even though I know line is unsplit and in good condition(after several trips up and down stairs). I'm pretty sure I'm setting it right, I always check that the unit is toning before I go on the hunt. The ones I do detect require unscrewing fittings even on rg59.
Any other line locating strategies would be appreciated, I know how to use an 8 way amp in emergencies, but that requires unscrewing fittings. I'm familiar with the tool that uses 3 colored resistors but again that requires unscrewing of fittings.
......I hate extra work.
best toner package?
