I have a small cable system and just launched 10 DTV/HDTV 8VSB broadcast signals on my system using digital down converters and digital upconverters. These digital converters change the 8VSB signals from a ATSC channel to a NTSC channel. Using a Sony HDTV I'm unable to find theses signals in the auto tune mode however if I manually tune each EIA channel individually I can get them to program into the TV. Many TV brands like Sharp, RCA, etc., will not tune these 8VSB signals over cable. If I hook up and antenna to these sets then they will get the over-the-air 8VSB signals no problem. Other TV brands like Sony, Sanyo, etc., will tune in the 8VSB signals over cable.
Any idea why certain HDTV sets would not detect an 8VSB signal when delivered over cable?
