Your friend apparently thought that you might find this site interesting. Maybe give you some assistance if needed, or an avenue to converse with individuals in the same industry.
What you find here, you can leave here or take with you. It may be like picking the fly-**** out of pepper. It's up to each visitor. It's nice to hear that you found some good things.
The comment about "bitching" however is a bit off the Cabl Bar track.
Here is my take on your comment:
The ability to cope with adversity means successfully dealing with life's problems. The way people cope with adversity, is as substantially different as people themselves.
Some engage in emotion-focused coping, focusing on distracting their attention from the problem, denying the problem, venting emotions, or sharing emotions with others.
A second form of coping, problem-focused coping, involves efforts to reduce stress by solving the problem. In this form, a person takes active steps to overcome the problem, like seek counseling, or look for a new job due to problems at work. They may also seek advice from friends and family.
Either strategy of coping, is at least a means of successfully dealing with that individuals adversity to maintain mental health.
Social support from friends and members of a common community, such as this web site also promotes good mental health. Some members of the forums here can offer real help in a crisis, such as providing comfort to families or offer a fellow member an a job opportunity, others of us may only provide a source of emotional support.
Many, maybe most, of us are friends whom have never met; but we can respond with concern, empathy, and advice to a person facing difficulty. If for nothing more than a boost in confidence or by offering reassurance, or a compliment.
If you are new to this cable site, then you have also stumbled upon a Self-help group. An open forum whereby we might provide support by sharing similar problems and experiences.
Conversely, as you may have found, negative interaction, such as constant criticism and belittlement from other people, as well as employers, can undermine ones mental health and attitude.
Why not join us, and help to combat the effects of stress.
Venting and Bitching are not interchangeable.
I have read that "... Bitching by itself does not do anything to help, unless you are looking to raise blood pressure...Venting is an absolutely necessary part of human interaction..."
Merry Christmas, and/or Happy Holidays
which ever floats your boat.
