The break in logic occurs at “So, each chipped in $10.00, with $1.00 being returned, for a total cost of $9.00 each. Nine times three is 27, plus the 2 dollars for the maid makes 29”

Here, the mathematically challenged reader is left to infer that the $27 includes the $3 key deposit return and the $25 for the motel without realizing that the total motel, $25 and the total key deposit return, $3, would equal $28. Rather, the reader has somehow concluded that DetroitCableDoc has not lied and still inexplicably believes that the total is proper at $27.

Since in actuality, the $27 figure stated in the problem includes the $2 for the maid and $25 for the motel, the last sentence quoted from DetroitCableDoc above should read, “Nine times three is 27, PLUS 3 DOLLARS FOR THE RETURNED KEY DEPOSIT makes $30.
