Yep, FTA (Free To Air) is a set top box that is used to pick up un-encrypted DVB signals from satellites. Some channels are network feeds and some local channels from the TV networks and foreign programming. I personally have a FTA box in my house because my wife is Korean and likes to recieve programming from home. I know of one or two people that have offered to put software on the box for me to "hack dish network" but I already am a subscriber and also an installer, so what is the point? Why would I want to risk 20 years in prison for free tv? I think not.
But to answer your question, FTA is an acronym for Free To Air programming, but generally FTA (in underground circles) refers to receiving encrypted programming for free with a STB.
