Union Bad. License Good.

There are a great number of very competent lineman who frequent this site, so please don't take offense.

It's beyond me why MSOs would allow a bunch of untrained hacks to chop up a multi-billion dollar investment. They would benefit from a MANDATED trade organization that would standardize training and require education beyond the "do it like I told ya". school of the past 30 yrs.

If your really good, give props to the guy who taught you. Most of us can point back to the person who gave us the leg up.

Journeyman Electrician: 600hrs class time/ 8000hrs field time with a Licensed electrician. 1-to-1.

Average wage after 4 years: 25hr+ for the rest of their life.

cable guy works 10 years and gets offered a job installing for 10 bucks an hour.

CABLE DOESN'T NEED A UNION, IT NEEDS PROTECTION OF THE TRADE.
