This is one area where inexperienced folks can really screw up. It takes experience(from close calls and not disasters hopefully) to know alot of the potential hazards. The training most folks recieve doesn't cover "feel". It also doesn't cover common sense. Most trainers miss alot of common sense issues thinking "everybody knows not to drill until checking the other side".
I think I'm ok except for crawl fishing, haven't hit a wire yet(a/c vents several times), but it will happen one of these days. I guess a good tip is familiarize yourself with what it feels like when the bit breaks through and stop drilling at that instant.
That would have prevented the following, I knew I had cleared the wall but felt another soft object and kept going.
Drilled through a plastic phone box a couple of days ago, it moved between the time I was on the outside and the actual drilling. I swear it did, lol.
I figured since it was only 3" by 3", I'd never hit it.
Much more careful around breaker panels.
