By all means, have a beer. But remember, you said it all in your post. You're not away from your family because you're a jerk, you're away from them because you're providing for them.
Sounds to me like you've already got your priorities straight. Make up your mind that when you get back home, you'll spend a day watching the kids play in the back yard. You don't even have to play with them, just be there to watch.
