It all depends on your own politics and perspective. If you have been a hard working employee for an HSP (for example) and that HSP announced that they were going to drasticly cut your earning potential and you lived in an area where options are limited, then you may find yourself pro-union due to the back against the wall effect.

A union is only as good as the employees in it.

Once a company gets into a management vs. techs, that is when the techs may feel the need to organize. That to me is only logical.

If you find yourself in an area with opportunites at every corner, then you will be more emboldened to tell the man(agement) to go and f connect himself.
