Re: Support the Employee Free Choice Act.

FIber Guy, unions may or may not be a good thing. But answer this, shouldnt the employees be the ones to decide if they want to organize? And shouldnt they be able to do this free of intimidation from companies? Thats all this bill is trying to achieve. An intimidation free enviroment for employees to make their decision.

You say some interesting things. Union membership is not growing across the board. But it is growing in the one sector that is very careful no to take part in intimidationg workers, goverment. Union membership in goverment agencies continues to rise. Goverment agencies do not approach organizing drives like those in the private sector. Goverment agencies for the most part stay neutral and let employees vote their conciense. Also, consent and neutrality language has been succesful in creating intimidation free enviroments, and have also been the reason many employees have voted for union representation. My point is, yes, union membership is down, but there is data out there that suggests that its not because employees dont want it, its because of intimidation tactics used by companies. If companies really thought unions were bad for employees, and that unions arent wanted by workers, this bill would not bother them. If this was true, they would be confident that when workers TRULEY vote their concience, they would not vote a union in. But as we all see, for some reason this bill bothers corporations.
