The government did respond immediately. The Coast Guard was on site within hours with 10% of their total force. The National Guard was also there. The local military bases were destroyed the same as everything else in the path of the storm. Then FEMA got involved and everything went south (no pun intended). When a FEMA employee turns a shipment of diesel fuel around being delivered by the Coast Guard because it doesn't fit their plan then something is wrong in FEMA not "The Govt". When the state of Louisiana turns away a fully equipped mobile trauma center because they are not sure the doctors can practice in their state(?) something is wrong. Common sense has been lost somewhere. At least Mississippi allowed them in (welcomed with open arms).
The problem is some bureaucrat somewhere is so scared of losing his (this is a guess 200 or so thousand) a year job when common sense should prevail. I'm ranting now better shut up.
