Re: Our future as contractors
hey, I am a telephone lineman, for a lot of years, don't claim to be a catv expert, but when the price is right I will do make ready or strand and cable. Built a good name for myself in the industry and started my own company, we do dam good work at a good price. This industry is going to hell because of the primes and subs, everyone is trying to take 40%. The pay for a 2 man starts out @250 an hour, the the first prime takes 40% leaves the subs $150, that is where some of the higher pay adds come from, but most ask for a 3 man crew, so they will charge more but pay less. the sub who pick up most of these jobs try to get crews and takes 40% of that and leaves $90, look all over the bar and talk to these people and you will get the same rate. Anyone who says different is either a liar or just does not know who they are working for. Everyone I work with, we stay between 10 and 20% always, why should anyone make $100 per hour of a 2 man crew just to trade paper? Sorry my post is so long but screw these money hungry bastards. If a prime was smart he would take 15% have all the top notch crews he could handle and a great product which in turn makes him look good, but ooh well, I will stick to phone. Thanks, be safe.
